Window Tint Guide
Window Tint Aftercare Guide
What to expect after your install, how long to keep your windows up, and how to clean tint the right way.
New tint needs a little time to cure. Follow these steps and your film will look great for years.
The first week
- Keep your windows up for 3 to 5 days. Rolling them down too early can catch the film's top edge and peel it.
- Don't worry about haze or small water bubbles. They're leftover moisture from the install and will dry out on their own. Warm, sunny weather speeds this up.
- Don't push on bubbles or pick at the edges.
- Wait about a week before cleaning the inside of the tinted glass.
- Leave the rear defroster off for the first few days.
Cleaning tinted windows
- Use an ammonia-free glass cleaner, or a little mild soap in water.
- Wipe with a soft microfiber cloth. Avoid paper towels, scrub pads and razor blades.
- Be gentle around the edges and the rear defroster lines.
Long-term care
- Watch seat belt buckles, rings and cargo that can scratch the film when loading the car.
- Avoid sticking suction cups or decals on tinted glass.
- If you see bubbling, peeling or lifting after the cure period, contact your shop so we can take a look under your warranty.
Have paint protection film too? The same rule applies: give it a few days to settle before washing, and avoid pressure-washing the film edges.
Common questions
How long after tint can I roll my windows down?
Wait 3 to 5 days. This gives the adhesive time to cure so the film doesn't peel at the top edge.
Is it normal for new tint to look hazy or bubbly?
Yes. Small water pockets and haziness are moisture that's still drying out. They usually clear up within a few days to a few weeks, depending on the weather.
Can I wash my car after getting tint?
Yes, you can wash the outside right away. Wait about a week before cleaning the inside of the tinted windows.
